The city of Brandenburg Germany was once a city of trade, a crossroads for the finest merchants and products in Europe. Brandenburg is only thirty miles southwest of Berlin and is surrounded by Brietlingsee and the Plauer See.

The city of Brandenburg Germany is one of the sixteen Bundeslander federal states formed in 1990 but its roots are in the old world. As one of the seven electoral states of the Holy Roman Empire, Brandenburg eventually became Brandenburg-Prussia and was home to the Duchy of Prussia. In 1995, Berlin and Brandenburg proposed to join forces and become one, but the voters declined, leaving Brandenburg to reign as one of the rare jewels of historic Germany. 

Situated on the Northeast border of Germany, Brandenburg has a population of more than 2.5 million people and offers something for everyone – residents and visitors alike. From the Spreewald biosphere reserve and the Lower Oder Valley National Park, to the Barnim Nature Park and the High Flaming Nature Park, Brandenburg is rich with nature and works hard to preserve its natural landscape and history.  

Brandenburg Germany is divided into fourteen rural counties or Landkreise. Its roots include the influences of the Roman Catholic Church and its bishops and monks, the Prussians, the Slavs and Sorbs and the more recent strip mining industry.

Today, Brandenburg Germany is as diverse as its political parties which include the Christian Democratic Union, The German People’s Union, The Left Party and the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Brandenburg is a city of rivers and wetlands, with the Elbe River on the border to the West, and the Oder River to the East. Spree and Havel round out the waterways. The orbs still live in Spreewald and practice the customs passed down by their Slavic roots.
